In the first chapter of 1 Thessalonians we see 3 major practices the church was doing that brought it strength and health.
First was apprenticeship.
Accepting Jesus as savior is not the end of the journey it is rather the beginning of a journey. It is a journey much like an apprentice in a trade. The new believer must work with the master and gain insight and knowledge of their craft. As new believers the Thessalonians did this work, they studied what Jesus said, they looked at how the old writings of Moses and the prophets were fulfilled in Jesus, and they sought to discover who God is and what he wanted for their lives. Apprentices are student!
They crave knowledge.
They seek insight and
They hunger and run after understanding.
Secondly, they basked in fellowship.
This work of our faith is the act of doing life together, spending time with each other for the purpose of “knowing and being known by each other”. The bible tells us that when we spend time with each other we are like to swords moving against each other to sharpening one another.
They would meet regularlyfor church, for meals and in the day to day obligations of life. But the key is they made it a priority in their lives.
Lastly the Thessalonians honored God with their finances. That means giving God his ten percent, living within their means and being generous to others.
