Truth Telling

If we look at the root of Proverbs 6’s, a lying tongue and a false witness who pours out lies, we will find a lack of truth telling.

Let’s consider three areas where we can opt for lying versus telling the truth. First, telling the truth to ourselves.

For instance, we need to tell the truth to ourselves about the condition of our marriages when we insist they are at optimal level when they are not.

We need to tell the truth to ourselves about our things that are mastering us. If you can’t say no to it- its mastering you.

We need to tell the truth to ourselves about what comes out of our mouths, is it honoring, is it proper, is it necessary. Would I say it in front of Jesus?

Am I a gossip? Am I a crook? Am I an addict? Am I a malcontent?

As scary as being truthful to ourselves may sound, it is the key to freedom. Jn 8:32

you will know the truth,

and the truth will set you free.

The second area is telling the truth to others.

People will rely on what we say to them. They will trust it, act on it and pass it on.

When we tell the truth to others we honor them, conversely the opposite is also true. Lying to others dishonors them.

Maybe a friend has a blind spot that you need to speak some truth to. The bible is telling us to honor them, tell the truth to others.

Finally, we must tell the truth to God. A conversation with our Jesus means being honest with Him. We can tell Jesus the truth about our mistakes, what scares us and what we need help with.

You see the amazing thing about God is that no matter what we have done, think or struggle with it will not drive Him away.

If you want to be free, start telling the truth.
