Our new series began by looking at things God loves versus things He hates. Proverbs 6 informed us that God hates haughty eyes coupled with a condescending spirit while, loving a heart that esteems others better than themselves.
We live in a world that does a lot of evaluating. Who is talented- who is not? What bank offers the best interest? What movie is worthy of my time and money? Who is worthy of hire? What leader should I follow? and the list goes on.
Unfortunately this “evaluation process” reaches areas it should not. This is how haughty eyes are created. We assigning values and worth to people that will take us to that dark area God abhors.
The cure for haughty eyes is seeing people the way God sees them.
Everyone is flawed, everyone has problems, everyone has made bad mistakes. Conversely, everyone has a contribution to make to Gods kingdom, everyone is loved equally by God and everyone offers us something we can learn from. Esteeming others comes by lowering our evaluation of ourselves and raising it for others.
